A New Vaccine Dose in Discussion as the Corona Epidemic Persists

Many view the Corona epidemic as part of the past, and the reason is that people have coexisted with it, while the countries of the world have worked to reduce or completely cancel preventive restrictions, although the disease is still continuing.

According to the New York Times, countries deal differently with the issue of vaccination, as there are countries that are enthusiastic about vaccinating people with a new booster dose, while other countries have chosen not to follow this path.

And the authorities of Britain and Canada, for example, agreed to give a booster dose to people most likely to develop complications from “Covid 19”, such as the elderly and those suffering from diseases that weaken their immunity.

Health data in the United States indicates that 300 people die daily in the country due to complications from “Covid 19”, and most of them are elderly people over seventy or who suffer from other health disorders.

In light of this situation, the question arises in the United States about whether health authorities are required to authorize a new booster dose in order to protect people most vulnerable to complications from “Covid 19”.

This question is of greater importance, given that there are about 53 million people in the United States who have reached the age of sixty-five or older, which represents 16 percent of the total population, according to the US Census Bureau.

Experts explain that infection with corona may be mild or accompanied by moderate symptoms in a non-elderly person, if his health is good, but the situation differs among some fragile segments.

About 7 million people in the United States suffer from health disorders that have weakened their immune system, and this limits their ability to cope with diseases.

Celine Gaunder, a health expert at the Kaiser Family Foundation, explains that elderly people and those suffering from diseases are still exposed to major health risks due to Corona, such as hospitalization and even death.

It is not yet clear whether the US Food and Drug Administration will recommend a new booster dose, but it has said earlier that it may approve a single dose vaccine given each fall, similar to the flu vaccination.

The American Foundation is betting on simplifying coronavirus vaccination so that people don’t have to take new doses every now and then.
