A great classic of the month of March is imminent: the winter flick!
After the first spring warmth that we are experiencing right now, a sudden change in the weather is expected starting from Sunday 26 and for the following days with the arrival of cold currents that will cause rains, thunderstorms and, surprise of the last update, L’unexpected return of the snow down to relatively low altitudes.
It will all be caused byirruption of air masses of arctic origin set in motion by a deep depression centered on Eastern Europe. These currents, with a decidedly winter flavor, will reach the Mediterranean basin, diving directly from the Porta della Bora (North East). In addition to rainfall we expect a marked drop in temperatureexacerbated by a decisive reinforcement of the winds from the northern quadrants.
Already from Monday 27 the snow will return, especially on the inland areas of the Center, whitening many localities above the 1400/1500 meters of share. And it didn’t end there, on the contrary. The influx of increasingly cold air from the North will cause a real collapse of the snow level in the Apennines: as shown in the map below, the flakes between the night and the first hours of Tuesday 28 could go as far as i 900 meters on Marche, Abruzzo and Molise.
A respectable weather event having now reached the end of March, especially in an era of global warming. We’ll see if it will be a flash in the pan or there will be other opportunities for late snowfall. There is certainly a need for rain, above all to quench the thirst in our area, which has been afflicted for some time by a marked drought.
