Denmark’s footballers unexpectedly stumbled in their second match in Group H of the European Championship 2024 qualifiers. On Sunday, they lost 2:3 to home country Kazakhstan in Astana, although they still led 2:0 after two goals by Rasmus Höjlund in the 73rd minute.

In the end, the Kazakhs were able to turn the score around thanks to accurate strikes by Bakhtijor Zajnutdinov from the penalty kick, Aschat Tagybergen and Abat Ajmbetov. The latter received a second yellow and therefore a red card in stoppage time, but the home team maintained a close lead and scored the first three points in the table.

The Danes, European champions from 1992 and semi-finalists of the European Championship 2020, also have only three points for their opening victory over Finland (3:1). Höjlund confirmed his scoring form, the 20-year-old attacker of Atalanta Bergamo and the author of a hat-trick against “Suomi” already has five goals on his account after two meetings.
