Heavy rain and strong winds resulted in a giant billboard toppled over at the Kiaracondong intersection, Jalan Soekarno Hatta, Bandung City. Before it collapsed, residents heard the sound of the big billboard breaking.
Kasatlantas Polrestabes Bandung Kompol Eko Iskandar said the incident billboard collapse The giant-sized incident occurred on Saturday (25/3/2023) at 13.15 WIB. Eko said the incident was caused by high rainfall accompanied by strong winds.
“The cause is wind, wind and rain. The rain was quite heavy, the wind was also strong,” explained Eko.
There was the sound of iron breaking
Head of Bandung City PB Diskar Gun Gun said that at the time of the incident, eyewitnesses heard the sound of metal breaking from the billboard. After that, the billboard toppled forward.
“According to information from one of the victims, when he was stopping at the Samsat stop, he heard the sound of metal breaking and not long after, the billboards behind him collapsed forward,” he said.
Ucok (31) also witnessed the terrifying seconds of the collapse of the giant billboard. At the time of the incident, Ucok was not far from the location.
He said that at the time of the incident, it was raining with heavy winds. It was then, this giant billboard suddenly collapsed onto the riders underneath.
“When it was raining again, I saw the strong wind collapsing me,” said Ucok.
Ucok said the billboard collapsed at around 13.00 WIB, the traffic light was red. As a result, many vehicles stopped under the billboard. According to him, two motorbikes and one car were hit by the advertisement.
Luckily, he said, there were no casualties in this incident. However, two motorcyclists were injured.
“Red light position, full of motorbikes, 1 car, 2 motorbikes, all the people are safe, but some of them have broken bones. When they collapsed, people left their motorbikes and ran,” he said.
