Deputy Mayor of Tallinn Tanel Kiik goes to the Riigikogu

Deputy Mayor of Tallinn Tanel Kiik announced on his Facebook page that he is going to the Riigikogu.

He wrote the following: “Sometimes in life you have to make difficult choices. One of them is now. I see that I could contribute to the promotion of life in Estonia both by being responsible for city property and transport as Tallinn’s deputy mayor and by realizing the mandate I received in the Riigikogu elections. My choice did not come easily, but it was time to make it, and today I informed both the chairman of the political party and the mayor of Tallinn about my decision.

I will start working in the soon-to-be-convened Riigikogu in order to contribute to the work of the Center Party faction and to achieving the role of opposition leader. I believe that I can offer important competence in the social and health fields and also be a constructive and critical partner to the government coalition that is being created. My original plan when I became assistant mayor was rather to continue in this position until the local elections. However, the political situation in the country and the party has changed significantly in half a year, and after consulting with dozens of party colleagues and friends, I still decided in favor of the parliament.

I sincerely thank the mayor of Tallinn, Mihhail Kõlvart, and the members of the city council for the opportunity to work in the city government. I did my best in developing free public transport and people-friendly mobility, increasing the crisis preparedness of city buildings, implementing energy saving measures, supporting Ukrainian municipalities and war refugees, and solving many other tasks. I also received confirmation that dedicated and professional people work in the Tallinn city system, who strive to improve the capital’s living environment and increase the well-being of city residents.

Thank you all for your cooperation and trust!”
