During a show at Antwerp’s Arenbergschouwburg, comedian Theo Maassen dismisses a toddler.

Maassen intervened after a child’s laughter could be heard in a sexually tinted joke. “I suddenly heard a shrill child’s laugh above everything,” he says. The artist asked for silence to find out if there was indeed a young child in the room.

This turned out to be the case. When the girl said she was three years old, Maassen asked her to leave the room. “The child was sitting on her parent’s lap,” says the comedian. “It just happened during my most bawdy prank. It was bizarre. I’ve never experienced anything like it.”

Maassen played his performance ‘Unknown Terrain’ in the Arenberg Theater in Antwerp. The incident happened just after the performance started.
