Rugby: The British Embassy at the bedside of Makis

The Makis of Madagascar are spoiled. All the national youth teams combined received lots of boxes made up of sports equipment from the British Embassy in Madagascar. A delegation led by HE Mr. David William Ashley in person came to the Maki Andohatapenaka stadium yesterday to deliver these donations to the members of the Makis. “I particularly congratulate the Ladies Makis VII for their qualification for the World Cup in South Africa. The Nation is very proud of you and your journey. You were excellent ambassadors for Malagasy rugby during this tournament. I am convinced by your talents. That’s why we give you these gifts. Our country is also passionate about the oval ball. Rugby has been played in England since 1823. Malagasy rugby is very important to us. The Oxford University team had been beaten by the Makis during their meeting in 2018 in the capital”, noted the ambassador. These donations include jerseys, socks, shorts, t-shirts and training clothes. “I hope this equipment will bring happiness to the whole team and will also strengthen the links between the British Embassy and Malagasy Rugby”, he continued. The level of rugby in Madagascar has increased a lot. “This is surely noticed by all great nations. It is the fruit of the continuous efforts of the Maki above all. On behalf of the federation, we thank the British Embassy for their support. It is a great honor for us to receive these gifts from a country that is the birthplace of this discipline.”added President Marcel Rakotomalala. “We will give the best of ourselves to honor your gift”, said Fenitra, the captain of the Makis U16. In addition, the young Makis U16 and U18 left last night for Reunion as part of the Indian Ocean tournament or AROI which will take place this weekend.
