The Russian national team draws with Iran in light of its preparations to participate in the Central Asian Football Federation Championship.
The Russian national team ended its match with Iran, with a positive draw (1-1), yesterday, Thursday, at the “Azadi Stadium” in the capital, Tehran, and is preparing to host the Iraqi national team, the “2022 Gulf Cup champion”, in Russia, next Sunday.
The Russian Football Union scheduled its friendly match against Iran, on the same day as the start of the first round of qualifying for the European Championship, Euro 2024, to be hosted by Germany.
The International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) and the European Football Association (UEFA) announced, in February of last year, the suspension of the participation of the Russian national team and clubs in all competitions of the two federations, until further notice, due to the Russian military operation in Ukraine.
The Russian national team will participate in the first edition of the Central Asian Football Federation Championship, “CAFA”, from 9 to 21 June next, with the participation of the local member associations of the “CAFA”, namely: Afghanistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
