Protest against Job Creation Law: Workers to Undertake Long March from Bandung to Jakarta

Indonesian trade unions are planning a nationwide strike in July-August 2023, following a long march on foot from Bandung to Jakarta in the fourth week of April 2023. The strike is in protest against the government’s Job Creation Law (JCL), which was ratified last year. Workers plan to stop the production process, and leave factories and move towards predetermined action locations. Up to 5 million workers are expected to participate in the strike, which is likely to see around 100,000 factories and companies stop production. The strike is being organised by the Labor Party and the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI). Workers from a range of sectors including electronics, automotive, steel, iron, plantation, transportation, energy, mining, printing, publishing, media, information, pharmaceutical, health, textile, garment, shoes, and food and beverage sectors will participate. Workers across 38 provinces and more than 400 regencies and cities are involved.
