We all know the importance of maintaining healthy teeth to protect them from cavities, but experts have found a link between maintaining oral and heart health.
Dentist Samir Patel said that in addition to bad breath and tooth decay, neglect of oral and dental hygiene can have a harmful effect on other organs, especially if some steps are not taken properly.
He added that the use of floss is very necessary to maintain dental hygiene, speaking of a link between floss and heart health.
And he continued: Studies increasingly show the importance of using floss for neurological and heart health as well. Flossing removes plaque from under the gum line, which may prevent erosion of tooth enamel and cause tartar, as well as reduce the risk of tooth decay, and the possibility of gingivitis, inflammation and redness.
Research has found that inflammation from gum disease can damage blood vessels, including those in your heart, which can lead to coronary heart disease.
What’s more, people with gum disease are more likely to have heart attacks and strokes.
Dr. Patel said you should always make sure to brush your teeth as soon as you wake up, and you should never wait until after eating breakfast, because bacteria accumulate in our mouths, and eating food before brushing teeth in the morning can feed bacteria and can form acid that attacks tooth enamel.
Although you should brush your teeth twice a day, dental experts say that if you insist on doing it only once, then the night is the best time, because sleeping with plaque on your teeth can allow it to harden, and therefore it cannot be removed without resorting to a doctor.
