Mike Pompeo served as secretary of state under former President Donald Trump.
“The alliance between Moscow and Beijing may be a shotgun marriage, but they are still married,” Pompeo told Fox News on Wednesday (22/3/2023).
“To hear the White House play down this as if it is unimportant or unimportant is a huge strategic mistake,” he said.
Pompeo spoke hours after Chinese President Xi Jinping wrapped up a landmark visit to Moscow, where many deals were signed.
He stressed that China had been “getting energy at a discount” from Russia.
“Think about it. American manufacturers pay full shipping costs for energy today and the Chinese get a 15.20% discount on every barrel of oil, which allows them to continue dumping their product in America,” he said.
