At the same time, the management of the NOS is looking for a new editor-in-chief for the sports editors. The previous editor-in-chief resigned on March 12, when the extent of the abuses on the editorial floor became known. It concerned hundreds of cases of discrimination, (sexual) harassment and bullying, among other things, over a period of twenty years.
“I’m glad we were able to find someone of her caliber so quickly,” says NOS director Gerard Timmer about Smit. “She has the knowledge and experience to initiate the desired changes at NOS Sport.”
Smit was previously CEO of the 538 Group and worked as commercial director for media company TMG.

Tom Egbers will not be seen for the next few months
Smit will be working with deputy editors-in-chief Pim Marks and Selma Schuurman in the coming period. They have been given the task of guaranteeing the continuity of the NOS Sport editorial staff.
“In this complicated and difficult time, the editors have not only shown a lot of solidarity, but also shown the strength and quality that is so typical of NOS Sport,” says Timmer.
Presenter Tom Egbers has retired from broadcasting in the coming months. He would have been guilty of misconduct in several cases. An external investigation is currently underway to identify abuses in and around the editorial office.
