Full Tilt Crane Services has just added the LR 1400 SX to its fleet. “We bought the machine to meet the needs of our customers: to lift larger and heavier parts at the same time”, explains general manager Jason Richardson.
Liebherr developed the LR 1400 SX due to this market requirement, to provide a versatile crawler crane for ever heavier and larger loads. With the new model, the plant has successfully expanded its portfolio to include loads of up to 400 tons.
The tilting panels, which the LR 1400 SX lifts at the Atlanta construction site, are produced on site. No prefabricated elements and no truck deliveries. The largest tilting panel has a height of approximately 34 meters. “You won’t be able to do that in the prefab market.” The tilting panels manufactured on site by Martin Concrete Concrete have the advantage of making them considerably more flexible than precast. This is where the size of the LR 1400 SX plays an important role.
During the development phase, it was important to Liebherr that installation and transport were easy, despite the size of the crawler crane. With its compact transport weight of 46 tonnes, it can be easily moved between job sites thanks to the crane’s self-assembly system which allows it to be assembled in less than 12 hours.
The platform and guardrails remain attached to the turret during transport and only need to be folded down. Thanks to the self-assembly system, the boom sections, body counterweight, tracks and lifting winches can be easily assembled and disassembled without the need for an auxiliary crane. The crane can even hydraulically lift, lower and secure the 150 ton rear counterweight without assistance. The rear counterweight itself is modular and can be fitted with 5 or 10 tonne counterweight slabs as required.
With the assistance systems ground pressure visualization, Gradient Travel Aid or Boom Up-and-Down Assistant, Liebherr has paid particular attention to the safety concept of the “new weightlifter”.
