Arcane Studio held a special event where representatives of various publications were able to play the single version for about an hour and a half Redfall from a given plot point. After that, everyone published a preview and, in general, agreed that the developers managed to maintain their usual style in a new genre.
Many noted interesting, diverse and independent game characters, but even more often praised the arsenal of weapons. It is quite impressive here and includes both real guns and special examples collected specifically for hunting vampires.
We noted Arcane’s trademark visual storytelling, interesting stories in different locations, and a rather deep lore. The representative of Eurogamer noted an interesting fact: unlike typical zombies, here you can become a vampire only at will, and this changes a lot in perception.
The locations are very extensive, with many entrances, interactive objects and all sorts of ways to implement the environment to your advantage. The IGN channel noted that the opponents in the game are not very smart, but this allows you to lure them into traps and use the potential of the game.
An IGN spokesperson also gave an interesting definition of Redfall: “a Far Cry game made by Stephen King”
Most of all, the PC Gamer review stands out from the general series, the only one that is sharply negative. The journalist noted that the game is empty and boring, does not cling to anything.
Particularly disappointing are weak enemies, who are so useless that there is little desire to use the environment, stealth or look for some creative ways to deal with them. The representative agreed with him. GameRant, adding that the developers released journalists into the game with cool equipment and a decent amount of skill points. To this were added claims about a rather slow pace of combat and relatively slow movement around the world.
In terms of the plot of the main mission, these two publications have already diverged: a representative of PC Gamer called it a banal story about a mad scientist, while GameRant was very impressed, at the same time praising the side stories.
Representative Polygon also found a fly in the ointment, highlighting the extremely standard side tasks and fairly typical main gameplay. However, the journalist said that it was still nice to see such a shooter performed by Arcane with the studio’s signature features. Useless loot that automatically turns into money or food is also a good point.
Another interesting feature of the game is a unique boss that the dark gods will set on players if they kill elite vampires too actively. Some met with this boss and reported that he smeared them without difficulty. In general, it is not so easy.
In general, the impressions about the game are positive, although here and there some disadvantages are visible. Many reviewers also worried that the game would feel much weaker in co-op, but no one has been able to verify this for sure yet.
Redfall Coming May 2nd for PC and Xbox Series X|S. At launch in Game Pass.
