The extension works of the Blitta solar power plant started on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. The construction site, part of the third phase of this photovoltaic solar power plant, the largest in the West African sub-region, was launched by the Head of State Faure Gnassingbé.
Once the work is completed, the Power Plant will guarantee the city of Blitta autonomy in terms of electricity, this in line with the government’s ambition to better meet the needs of populations in electrical energy in order to achieve universal access. by 2030.

Indeed, the photovoltaic solar power plant of Blitta connected to the network of the Electric Community of Benin (CEB), will now supply 222,000 households against 158,333 currently planned.
Technically, the overall production capacity of the energy infrastructure will increase from 50 to 70 Megawatt peak. The energy storage system will be implemented through a 4 Megawatt-hour (MWh) battery to extend the availability of clean energy to the electricity grid at night.
This third phase is financed by a loan of 25 million dollars, or approximately 16 billion FCFA, by the Abu Dhabi Export Office (ADEX), created by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.
Through this extension, it is said, Togo is showing more of its short-term ambition to increase the share of renewable energies in the energy mix to 50%, in accordance with the objectives of the electrification strategy set out in the Roadmap. Governmental Togo 2025.
Commissioned in June 2021 by the Blitta power plant, has already achieved annual production of nearly 83,000 MWh in 2022, with a forecast of 82,000 MWh.
