Linda Noskova two weeks ago in Indian Wells, she advanced to the third round at the premiere of the WTA 1000 event, and today she made a winning debut at another prestigious event in Miami. Italian woman Lucia Bronzetti defeated 6-3 6-4 and in the fourth of five tournaments this year, she managed her first appearance in the main competition.
18-year-old Nosková decided the first set with a break at 3-2, then took the lead 4-1 in the second set. Despite the loss of one serve, she kept the lead, the 51st player in the world ended the match by using the third match point.
In the second round, Nosková will face Petra Kvitová, fifteen years older, who had a free draw in the first round. She will face the two-time Wimbledon winner and the current Czech No. 1 on the 12th place in the WTA rankings for the first time.
Markéta Vondroušová a few days ago in Indian Wells she defended the round of 16 and now she is trying to repeat the same result in Miami. She started with a smooth 6-4 6-1 win over the German Tatjanou Mariaovouwith whom she did not lose more than seven games even in the third match.
The 23-year-old native of Hradec Králové managed her opening appearance at the fifth of the six tournaments this year, and she always won in the second round. In Florida, the quarter-finalist from 2019 will meet Veronika Kuděrmetová (h2h 0-1).
Four out of seven Czech female tennis players passed the first round. Muchová, Nosková and Vondroušová followed on from yesterday’s success of Tereza Martincová. The seeded quartet of Petra Kvitová, Barbora Krejčíková, Karolína Plíšková and Marie Bouzková had a free draw in the opening round.
She won the duel between two former US Open winners Bianca Andreescu. The Canadian finalist from 2021 managed 6-3 3-6 6-2 against the British Emma Raducanu and may be preparing for a repeat of last year’s semi-final against world number ten Maria Sakkariová from Greece (h2h 1-1).
