Libreville, Wednesday, March 22, 2023 (Gabon Info) – This is the message sent this Wednesday, March 22, 2023 by the team of the Génération “Eau claire” Association on the occasion of the celebration of this event.
Initiated by the United Nations since 1992, the ” world water day is celebrated on March 22 each year. Very involved and at the forefront of issues related to water and sanitation, the Génération “Eau claire” Association, which does not want to depart from custom, intends to continue its commitment in favor of rooting and promoting World Water Day in Gabon.
Thus, for this 2023 edition, the actors of the Génération Eau Claire Association plan to organize meetings aimed at raising the awareness of the public authorities, the main actors involved in the chain of collection, production and distribution of water, young people as well as the general public in order to further popularize the slogan launched by the United Nations, namely “Water is life, sanitation is dignity”.
The least we can say is that this day comes at the right time to take stock of the commitments made by the international community in 2015.
To know ” That everyone has access to water and hygienic sanitation services by 2030 in line with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) n°6”.
But in the light of the facts, it seems that there is still a long way to go towards achieving this objective. This is why, in its awareness message this year, the “Génération Eau Claire” team could not be clearer in conveying the message below in order to make everyone aware:
« Even if governments work on average four times faster to achieve this goal on time, they can never do it alone. ».
Sustainable water management is everyone’s business
In other words, if everyone agrees that water is life, now is the time for everyone to make the issue of water a matter of personal commitment.
So that each person, family or any entity can make a difference by changing the way they use, consume and manage water on a daily basis.
In 2023, a pivotal year, the acceleration in the change of mentalities must serve as a driving force to resolve the crisis linked to water and sanitation.
Just seeing the paradox that is happening in Gabon is quite edifying and could further encourage the various actors to redouble their efforts in favor of more courageous and innovative actions.
An equatorial country with high and generous rainfall, access to drinking water remains crucial, particularly in several towns in Gabon.
Undoubtedly, the rapid and sometimes uncontrolled urbanization, the absence of operational sanitation systems, of protection of water sources, of coastal water bodies against flooding and pollution from untreated waste constitute a threat to human health.
These are all dysfunctions of the water cycle and observed pitfalls likely to compromise the progress of humanity in general and Gabonese in particular, particularly in the areas of health with water-borne diseases or against hunger, if There is a lack of sensitization and awareness in favor of the sustainable management of this vital natural resource for man. To do this, public authorities and citizens are called upon to act hand in hand in a sustainable and eco-water vision.
