Italian voters who are temporarily abroad for work, study or medical reasons for a period of at least three months in which the date of the next general elections on 25 September 2022 falls, as well as their family members living with them, will be able exercise the right to vote by mail (art. 4-bis, paragraph 1, law 27 December 2001, n. 459), receiving the electoral package containing the ballot papers at the temporary residence address abroad.
To exercise their right to vote by mail, these voters must send a specific option to the MUNICIPALITY of registration in the electoral lists by Wednesday 24 August 2022.
The option (which can be exercised using the following form OPTION FORM or on unstamped paper) must be sent to the Municipality by post, fax, e-mail, even uncertified, or sent by hand, again to the Municipality, even by a person other than the interested party.
The option, compulsorily accompanied by a copy of the voter’s valid identity document, must in any case contain the complete foreign postal address to which the electoral package must be sent, the indication of the competent consular office for the territory and a declaration certifying possession of the requisites for admission to postal voting (i.e. being – for reasons of work, study or medical treatment – for a period of at least three months in which the date for holding the consultations falls in a foreign country in which no you are resident by birth, or that you are a family member living with a citizen who is in the aforementioned conditions).
The option must be made pursuant to articles 46 and 47 of the decree of the President of the Republic of 28 December 2000, n. 445 (consolidated text of legislative and regulatory provisions on administrative documentation), declaring themselves aware of the criminal consequences in the event of false declarations (art. 76 of the aforementioned Presidential Decree 445/2000).
It is possible to revoke the option presented in the manner described above within the same deadline (August 24, 2022). Finally, it should be remembered that the option is valid only for the electoral consultation to which it refers (i.e., in this case, for the political elections of 25 September 2022).
