Las Tunas health authorities reported 15 minors and two adults who had to be hospitalized after being exposed to an “unknown substance in a vial.”
The case is already under investigation by specialists who formed a commission under the orders of the Communist Party (PCC).
According to the local media newspaper 26, those involved study at the ‘Frank País García’ semi-boarding school, in the town of Maniabón, in Puerto Padre. These people are evolving “favorably” without danger to life at the Raymundo Castro Morales Pediatric Hospital, however, it is still unknown what caused the problem.
According to the authorities, it all started after one of the minors found said unknown substance in the perimeters of his school, taking it to his classroom the next day.
This would have shaken the bottle, whose contents were scattered around the room, although the report does not indicate if any of the minors ingested said substance.
“They immediately received the first care at Office 40, with emergency services and transferred to the Raymundo Castro pediatric hospital,” says the local media.
Despite the report, the official newspaper did not detail the symptoms suffered by the minors, nor how the two adults were also exposed.
The specialist in Pediatrics, Dr. Renato Almaguer Bosch, points out that “the only reference element in some patients was pruritus”, for which urine and blood samples were taken.
The doctor points out that the minors continue under observation, while the resources and medical effects are available to the patients if necessary.
Users on social networks criticized the state media, pointing out that the little information they gave in the note only generated more doubts and concern among residents of the area.
“Please inform about everything and what kind of substances comes in that vial”; “I hope that when the investigation is finished, they will reveal what substance it was” and “I hope those little ones are well and incidentally the person in charge of making these informative parts work a little more and provide more information”, were just some of comments made by users.
