A popular hiking trail in County Wicklow, Ireland, known as the Zig Zags, has been effectively closed to the public after a landowner, Pat Dunne, was allegedly assaulted by a man hiking there with dogs. Dunne, a sheep farmer, was one of several landowners who agreed 16 years ago to allow an access route to run through their properties. However, the farmers stipulated that dogs were not allowed on the trail because of the risk they pose to livestock. Following the alleged assault, Dunne withdrew permission for his land to be included in the trail. Local walkers have been asked to respect the closure.
