According to the Climate Advisory Council, the south-west must be prepared for a significant increase in temperature by 2040. By then it should be three degrees Celsius warmer in Baden-Württemberg than at the beginning of the industrial age, reported Südwestrundfunk (SWR) on Tuesday, citing the advisory committee with scientists.
The green-black state government actually only expected an increase of three degrees in 2100, according to the media report. “We don’t want to scare anyone with this analysis, but we just have to face reality,” said the chairwoman of the Advisory Council, Maike Schmidt, to the SWR. Baden-Württemberg is more affected by climate change than other regions.
The expert called on the Stuttgart state government to adapt measures to prevent floods and droughts. “We expect extreme events to occur much more frequently due to these higher temperatures,” she tells the broadcaster.
