Togolese Emmanuel Adebayor retires from football after a 22-year career at the age of 39.
Today, Tuesday, Togolese Emmanuel Adebayor announced his retirement from football at the age of 39.
Adebayor said in a video he posted on “Instagram”: “My career as a professional player has been an amazing journey. Thank you to all my followers for being with me every step of the way. I am grateful for everything and excited for what is to come.”
Adebayor’s start in Europe was with the French team Metz, after he joined him from Togo in 1999, before moving to French Monaco in 2003.
Adebayor joined the English Premier League from the Arsenal gate 3 years after joining the emirate team, after which he moved to Manchester City (2009), went through a loan period with Spanish Real Madrid (2011), and moved between Tottenham and City on loan until he finally joined Tottenham ( 2012).
Adebayor concluded his career in his country, Togo, after playing for a group of Turkish clubs.
In his career, Adebayor won the King’s Cup title with Real Madrid, and the African Player of the Year award in 2008 when he was a player at Arsenal.
Adebayor defended his country’s shirt in 88 international matches, during which he scored 32 goals.
