The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) is offering a program with the goal of helping families in need.
In this case, they would be people who have problems paying their rents or public services.
It is true that the COVID-19 pandemic came to accentuate the difficult economic situation and the state of Texas was no exception. However, the Texas Rent Relief (TRR) website notes that they have set aside more than $2 million in emergency funds.
All of this, to help state tenants pay their rent and utility bills, including those that are already due.
It is worth noting that this Texas Rental Assistance program has helped more than 300 thousand inhabitants of the territory. Additionally, those who qualify will be eligible to receive assistance for up to 18 months.
What other information should be known about this program?
It is very important to know that, although the deadline to apply was initially reported as March 18, some issues have changed.
In other words, since the requests for assistance far exceeded the funds available, this Thursday the call closed at 11:59 a.m. CT.
The authorities explained that applicants who started the application and it was not completed, had to upload the documents and send them before the deadline.
The RFF indicated that it will give priority to those applicants facing eviction. But, this will be in the case of those who have an application with a valid eviction file number.
They also asked the population that could not access the application portal to try again. Similarly, the same was recommended to those who could not start a new application while the program had a high volume of applications.
It is recommended that as the app fills up, people make sure to save progress often.
They will also need to use the checklist for tenant applications. In this way, they guarantee and make sure to send all the necessary documentation.
