Norway has to do without Erling Haaland at the start of the European Championship qualifying series. The star player dropped out on Tuesday due to an injury to his groin.
Haaland sustained his injury from the home game he played with Manchester City against Burnley on Saturday in the FA Cup (6-0 win). The top striker impressed again in that game with a hat trick.
“Tests on Monday showed that he cannot participate,” says Norwegian federal doctor Ole Sand. “It is better that he returns to Manchester City to receive treatment there.”
22-year-old Haaland is missing due to his injury against Spain on Saturday and against Georgia on Tuesday. Scotland and Cyprus are Norway’s other opponents in Group A.
There is again no measure on Haaland this season, who has already scored 42 times in 37 games on behalf of Manchester City. Last week he was accurate five times in the Champions League match with RB Leipzig (7-0).
