Al-Akhbar (Nouakchott) – The Mauritanian State Defense Authority said in the file known as the “Decade file” that the withdrawal of the defense of former President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz from the court session that took place on Monday confirms, “Once again, the accused Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz evaded public and detailed accountability for what He is being charged with charges related to corruption in all its forms, starting with the seizure of state real estate, passing through suspicious deals, and ending with committing adultery.
In a statement, Al-Akhbar received a copy of it, the defense team expressed its hope that “the defense of the main defendant will return to the constants of the profession, and that the court will resume its work, as it was, in an atmosphere that has been characterized by calmness, calmness and dignity.”
The State Defense Authority called on the court to take the necessary arrangements to ensure the continuation of its work, “if the defense of the accused continues to boycott the proceedings, for reasons he knows best.”
The State Defense Authority stated that the lawyer’s message in the criminal field is summed up in serious and sincere work, provided that he communicates responsibility, sobriety and efficiency to the courts, by the legally available methods, the means of his client’s defense, considering that he “does not have, as a partner in the judicial process, to put obstacles in front of the functioning of the judicial facility in an effort to stand In front of the courts performing their duties, on the one hand, and undermining the credibility of their decisions and rulings, on the other hand.
The State Defense Authority accused the defense of the former president of repeating attempts to place, God willing, obstacles to prevent the court from dealing with the extremely serious facts attributed to their client, misinterpreting the decision of the Constitutional Council that it nullified all the procedures previously taken in this file.
And she added that when the court rejected their perception that the decision of the Constitutional Council invalidated all the procedures previously established in this file, “the defense of the accused Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz repeated what they had previously presented to the court, which they called defenses, demanding the removal of the Ministry of Finance, the SNIM company and its charitable organization, and Somalek from The case, as if it did not suffer serious damage due to the acts of corruption attributed to the defendants – and the main accused before others.
The defense team added in its statement that “as soon as the court stated that it had already decided on this issue and decided to dismiss the request to decide on it again, the main defendant’s defense resorted to withdrawing from the courtroom.”
The State Defense Authority spoke of the efforts made by the lawyers of the rest of the defendants, sincerely and responsibly – to no avail – “because the defense of the main defendant refrained from this position contrary to dealing with judicial procedures that guarantee a fair trial.”
