Serge Poda, Minister in charge of Trade: “Sofitex has adequate equipment to maintain its leading position”

Trade Minister Serge Poda paid a visit to the Sofitex Bobo III factory. It was Saturday March 18, 2023 in the Bobo-Dioulasso industrial zone.

After FILSA and the dry port of Bobo-Dioulasso, the Minister of Industrial Development, Trade, Crafts and Small and Medium Enterprises, Serge Poda also visited the premises of the Sofitex Bobo III factory. The objective of this visit was to immerse oneself in the operation of the factory and the quality of the equipment. The activity is part of the exchange tour with actors in the cotton value chain in Bobo-Dioulasso.

At Bobo III, the Minister found a staff in full task and to whom he sent his warm congratulations and encouragement, after visiting the seed certification laboratory, the storage warehouses, technical staff offices and the administration. “We are very satisfied after visiting all the facilities. We have noticed that the company is already equipped with adequate and necessary equipment to continue to fully play its role”, rejoiced the Minister of Industrial Development, Trade, Handicrafts and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises. According to him, Sofitex has everything it needs to maintain its leading position in Burkinabe industry. “We will therefore encourage the staff, especially those of the seed laboratory, so that the improved seeds can enable cotton farmers to produce a significant quantity. In addition, we need to sow a lot of land for better production,” assured Minister Serge Poda.

According to Sofitex Managing Director Boubacar Sidiki Babile Seye: “The Bobo III complex is Sofitex’s largest factory”. “It is the industrial benchmark in our field. This is where we also train our industrial agents. We are satisfied with the Minister’s visit. We remain in the dynamic of reviving the economy of our country through industrialization. We will continue to encourage all the players in the chain in order to obtain better results both in terms of production and industrially”, he insisted. After Sofitex, the Minister in charge of Trade visited other industrial units in the city of Sya.

History and composition of the Sofitex Bobo III factory

Created in 1989 under the name of the Bobo III complex, the factory is built on an area of ​​15 hectares. It is made up, among other things, of a seed certification laboratory room, a ginning plant, four storage warehouses with a capacity of 2,000 bags, personnel services, installation sites for machinery and parking.
