With the approach of Ramadan, citizens made a statement about fasting ransom payments this year. It was announced by the Ministry of Religious Affairs that the fasting ransom was determined as 70 TL this year.
In the statement made by Diyanet, the following statements were made:
“Taking into account the hadith-i sharifs on the subject, the current socio-economic life conditions and the daily food need of a person, the amount of fitra in 2023 in our country is determined as 70 TL, this amount can be given in cash, as well as food etc. It was unanimously decided that this amount could also be given in kind, and that this amount was also the price of the daily fasting ransom, and that each taxpayer could give an amount to be determined by taking into account his own economic situation and daily food expenditures.

WHO IS GIVEN THE RAMADAN FITER?
The purpose of fitre is to meet the daily food of a poor person according to the standard of living of the society he lives in, thus contributing to his participation in the joy of Eid.
Today, in determining the amount of fitr alms, it is more appropriate to measure the amount that will meet the normal food need of a person for one day (two meals). According to this, a person cannot give fitr alms to those who are considered to be rich in religion, to his usûl (mother, father, grandfather and grandmother), to his descendants (children and grandchildren) and to his wife. Fitrahs can be given to one poor or distributed to several poor. (Marginani, al-Hidaye, II, 224). However, the amount given to a person should not be less than one fitra.
