North Korea conducts simulation of fake warhead for ‘nuclear retaliation’ | Overseas

North Korea conducted a test with a counterfeit nuclear warhead on Monday. The exercise is a “stronger warning” to the United States and South Korea, according to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Those countries have been holding a series of military exercises since last Monday.

Kim suspects that his neighbor and the US are preparing for an invasion of North Korea. The countries deny that and say that the exercises are precisely intended to ward off any (nuclear) attacks by North Korea.

Despite this, Kim called on his country on Monday to “always be ready for a nuclear attack”. According to him, that threat should prevent a war.

North Korea’s missile test was already the fifth test this month and the twentieth missile test this year. It was also the third missile test since South Korea and the United States began military exercises on March 13. They will run until March 23. It is the largest joint military exercise since 2018.

Analysts disagree on how dangerous North Korea’s arsenal of weapons is, the news agency writes AP. The country is believed to have dozens of nuclear weapons, but experts have been speculating for years about the state of weapons technology. For example, it is not known whether the nuclear weapons can be placed on the most modern missiles.

Kim also said on Monday that he wants to further develop his nuclear forces. He hints at new missile tests in the coming weeks and months.
