Real Madrid goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, admitted after losing the (1-2) Clasico to Barcelona that the competition had become difficult for the La Liga title, after the difference between them in the lead widened to 12 points.
“Although we will continue to fight until the end, we must come here in order to win the cup (meaning the semi-final second leg in the King’s Cup),” he said in televised statements directly after the meeting, which was hosted by the (Spotify Camp Nou) stadium.
Despite everything, however, the Belgian goalkeeper confirmed that his team played a “good game”, and that “the equalizing goal right before the end of the first half hurt the team a lot.”
He concluded, “We threatened Barcelona’s goal a lot, but we did not translate these opportunities. We advanced in the last breath of the match towards victory, and their goal (meaning Frank Casey’s goal in the fatal time) came when we left some spaces in the back.”
And with his deadly victory, the Blaugrana took a big step towards regaining the La Liga title, which had been absent for two seasons, after widening the gap with the Merengue in the lead to 12 points.
