Crosshaven RNLI was called upon to assist in the medical evacuation of a patient from Cork’s Spike Island. The call came through from Valentia Coast Guard at 8pm on Saturday evening, requesting the lifeboat to transfer the patient to casualty care. Dave Venner led the lifeboat crew and met with staff at Spike Island fort, where they were then driven up to the medical room. After the patient had received suitable care from the first aiders, they were transferred to the lifeboat and transported to the lifeboat station. With the assistance of NAS ambulance, the patient was transported to Cork University Hospital. By 10.15pm, the lifeboat was successfully recovered and declared ready for immediate service.
