“Latin America Experiences Challenging Year with Only 1% Economic Growth, Report by IDB”

Panama (awp/afp) – Latin America and the Caribbean will face a “difficult” year 2023 with economic growth estimated at only 1% due to global “uncertainties”, the Inter-American Development Bank warned on Sunday. (IDB).

“Overall, 2023 will be difficult for Latin America and the Caribbean, given the complexity of global developments and its significant uncertainties,” says the IDB in its 2023 macroeconomic report presented by its chief economist, Eric Parrado. , at the close of the organization’s annual meeting in Panama.

The growth forecast is 1% if no new difficulties arise, specifies the IDB.

“In terms of specific economic growth in Latin America and the Caribbean, what we estimate for 2023 is that growth will be around 1% […]which for the development challenges for our countries is very low,” said Eric Parrado.

This IDB projection is lower than the 1.8% growth forecast for the region issued by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and that of 1.3% by the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean.
