The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine said the surprise visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to port city Mariupol night like a thief. Putin is considered to want to highlight what he wants to show in the dark.
“Befits a thief, Putin visits Mariupol Ukraine, under the cover of night. Firstly, it is safer. In addition, the darkness allows him to highlight what he wants to show, and leaves the city completely destroyed by his troops and the few surviving residents from reconnaissance,” the Ukrainian ministry said on Twitter.
As is known, Putin traveled to the city of Mariupol. The visit is nearly a year after Russia claimed it had seized the strategic port city. Putin’s visit is the Russian leader’s first trip to the Donbas region since the start of the Ukraine conflict in February last year.

The announcement of Putin’s visit to Mariupol comes after his surprise visit to Crimea on Saturday to mark the ninth anniversary of the peninsula’s annexation.
In Mariupol, he visited various sites, spoke with residents, and was given reports on the city’s reconstruction work, according to state media.
Russia launched a scorched earth campaign against Mariupol at the start of its offensive last year. The Russian attack destroyed the Azovstal steelworks, which were the Ukrainian forces’ last stand in the city.
