The Bar Council should revoke amendments that limit lawyers’ freedom of speech and attire without any delay – reported by Elnashra.com.

A member of the “Strong Republic” bloc, MP George Okis, affirmed that “what is required of the Bar Council is to immediately retract the amendments it made to the code of professional ethics, which restrict lawyers’ freedom of expression and media appearances.”

And he indicated, in a statement on social media, that “if the pretext for that is the crimes, persistence, or violations of some lawyers, then the syndicate is more likely to pursue these people than to shut everyone’s mouths. “Compensating for false speech in retail is better than silencing true speech altogether.”

Aqis asked, “Why do we suffocate freedom in Lebanon and narrow its spaces? Yesterday, an accusation was made against a deputy in violation of the provisions of the constitution (Article 39), and today an amendment is approved by the Bar Council, which is the first structure of freedom in Lebanon,” asking: “Where do we go with the message of this country?”“.
