The National Institute of Aquatic Spaces (INEA) of Venezuela suspended this Friday the departure of small fishing, recreational and sports boats on the coasts of Anzoátegui state.
This is due to bad weather in the Atlantic basin that generates high waves that move towards the Caribbean Sea.
Through a statement on Twitter, INEA pointed out that the suspension began this Friday from 6:00 a.m. local time (10:00 a.m. GMT) until Monday, March 20, at the same time in four areas of the eastern region.
INEA: Weather conditions
In addition, INEA reported that the measure may be extended due to “prevailing weather conditions.”
The agency explained that the high pressure ridge to the north of the Greater Antilles that extends over the Caribbean Sea, as in the country’s coastal zone, will be generating open skies with little cloudiness and little chance of rain.

“However, at the same time two areas of low pressure associated with frontal systems in the Atlantic basin are generating high waves.”
The statement added that “these waves are moving towards the Caribbean Sea, passing through the islands of the Greater and Lesser Antilles.”
INEA ensures that this situation “Reinforces the waves in the area, therefore adverse conditions are estimated for the safe navigation of small vessels,” he added.
He also indicated that an increase in the intensity of sustained winds is expected from 29 kilometers per hour to 37 kilometers per hour.
Also with intervals of up to 44 kilometers with “occasional strong gusts”, generating waves from 1.8 meters to 2 meters high.
