Tokyo Shimbun Web: National Federation’s Diet Statement and Former Unification Church Members Interactions Investigation before Spring Election

Lawyer Hiroshi Yamaguchi speaks at a meeting of the National Association of Lawyers Against Spiritual Marketing Law, which deals with the issue of the former Unification Church, in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, on the afternoon of the 18th.

On the 18th, the National Federation of Lawyers Against Spiritual Marketing (National Bar Association), which deals with the problem of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (former Unification Church), held a meeting in Tokyo. Ahead of the unified local elections to be held in the spring, a statement was adopted asking each political party and assembly to set up a third-party committee to investigate whether or not there is contact between lawmakers and the cult, and to publish the results. The statement will be sent to each party and the prefectural assembly.

Lawyer Hiroshi Yamaguchi, the representative of the group, said, “We want to continue to monitor the government’s actions. We must face the cries of the souls of the ‘second-generation religious people’ (whose parents are followers).” Attorney Hiroshi Watanabe pointed out that the Victim Relief Act, which prevents unfair solicitation of donations, needs to be changed to invalidate exorbitant donations.
