For the first time since 1947, the Chicago Bears were the first overall pick in the NFL draft. But they turned the first ballot into gold and gave it to the Carolina Panthers for some value. The order of the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft at a glance.

Carolina had to pay quite dearly for the free selection at the draft in Kansas City (April 27-29, 2023): The Panthers gave their ninth pick in 2023, a second-round pick in 2023, the first-round pick for 2024 and a second-round pick for the Year 2025 and wide receiver DJ Moore off to Chicago.
Stroud is the favorite at the moment
The Panthers will almost certainly pick a quarterback with the first pick. It is quite possible that four playmakers will be selected early this year, as several teams urgently need to fill the most important position in football. The names Bryce Young (Alabama), CJ Stroud (Ohio State), Will Levis (Kentucky) and Anthony Richardson (Florida) are highly traded. In bookies, Stroud is currently the clear favorite to have his name drafted first.
The Bears had the Houston Texans to thank for the first overall pick. They had won their final duel against the Indianapolis Colts in the dramatic final spurt with 32:31 and therefore “only” draft to 2nd. Almost a farewell gift from head coach Lovie Smith, who was fired the day after the game at the Texans. Houston already had a top 5 pick in the last draft. In 2022, the Texans picked cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. at 3rd place.
In the meantime, people are happy about high picks due to the poor performance of former trade partners in Seattle and Detroit. The Seahawks, who were the last team to get their playoff ticket but were eliminated by the San Francisco 49ers, draft at 5 with one of the picks they traded for Russell Wilson. Regular also at 20.
The Lions, who made Seattle’s play-off participation possible by defeating the Green Bay Packers, follow at 6. They once received the pick from the Los Angeles Rams for quarterback Matthew Stafford. Detroit also regularly has pick #18.
