“Trump resurfaces: Returns to Facebook and YouTube after 2021 suspension”

Donald Trump has made a comeback on Facebook and YouTube. “I AM BACK”, confirmed the former American president in a message written on Facebook, published Friday, March 17. “Sorry to keep you waiting, it was complicated,” he added in a video also posted on YouTube, reusing images from CNN appearing to date from the night of his election in 2016.

The former US president had been suspended in 2021 from a large number of social networks (including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube) due to the events on Capitol Hill. Donald Trump had encouraged his supporters during the attack on Congress in Washington, causing a serious political crisis, which has shaken American democracy.

Electoral strategy. YouTube legitimizes its decision by claiming to have assessed “the risk of violence” and taken into account the need for voters to listen “equally to major national candidates”. The site thus joins Twitter and Instagram, which have decided to readmit Donald Trump. The latter had meanwhile turned to his own platform, Truth Social, and had not expressed himself so far on Facebook.

Presidential candidate of 2024 for a second term, Donald Trump needs social networks to deploy his electoral strategy, first to try to win in the Republican primary. The battle with Ron DeSantis for major donors is in full swing. If he is appointed, Donald Trump could face in a second time… Joe Biden, possibly a candidate for his re-election.
