With a lot of dedication, tradition and foresight, the family-run flagship business has developed from a small alpine inn to a 4-star superior hotel. Decisive here: The innovative spirit and determination of the Pierer family, who have again invested several million euros in the expansion in recent years. For the hotel, the anniversary year 130 years of Pierer means the culmination of the previous positioning and further development.
Especially with regard to the great investments that were made last year: A spectacular wine vault, a Almboutique with fine things and the Alminarium natural kitchen, which is second to none. But also in the last four years, the managing directors Alfred and Franz Pierer, who manage the Almwellness Hotel in the fourth generation, have set trend-setting standards with countless innovations. With twelve new alpine garden suites, a parking garage with 28 parking spaces and an alpine spa and alpine garden in a modern alpine design with a spacious beauty and massage area, a lot of new things have already been implemented in 2019. In cooperation with the Styrian mastermind behind the Pierer Almdesign, Josef Göbel from Fladnitz, a new piece of Pierer history has been written again and again in recent years. “Our family cohesion and the willpower to implement visions give us the courage to make new investments. To be able to pamper our guests and to fascinate them again and again – that’s why the hard work is worth it,” is how Alfred and Franz Pierer describe their urge to keep developing the hotel.

Not only the family and the Pierer team are happy about the anniversary year – the guests of the Almwellness Hotel should also enjoy it to the fullest. So you can look forward to a year full of specials and special features: Extraordinary guest chefs, delicious anniversary desserts, refreshing cocktails, great competitions and many other highlights are planned. A special treat, the anniversary package Best of Pierer with many great included services and exciting anniversary highlights, has already started the eventful year in a fitting manner. “Enthusiastic guests who like to come back to our traditional house are the basis of our daily motivation. We would therefore like to thank them for their loyalty with many specials throughout the year,” says Hotel Director Rebecca Penz.
6.5 meters, 3 levels and 8,000 bottles – the spectacular wine vault offers space for a large variety of precious wines and stylish wine tastings.
The brand new and unique Pierer wine vault was recently opened. On three levels with a total height of six and a half meters, the black steel construction stores around 8,000 fine bottles, which are selected according to strict criteria, with ideal climatic and storage conditions. The eleven different types of Pierer wines, four types of sparkling wine and frizzante from our own winery, schnapps, brandies and the unique Pin Gin are stored here. In addition to these, the wine safe, with its additional twelve wine safes for rarities, keeps coveted wines and brandies from the most renowned wineries in Austria – Styria, Lower Austria and Burgenland – supplemented by a fine, international selection. These can be tasted, bought and kept by guests here. Stylish events, such as vintner days with guest vintners and wine tasting packages for wine lovers, regularly transform the Weintresor into a higher-level indulgence location. “Our tasty and varietal Pierer wines from our own winery in Gamlitz, in southern Styria, are produced by us with great care and know-how – quality that you can taste,” says Managing Director Franz Pierer.
Authentic and fresh ingredients, selected according to the highest quality standards, prepared in the newly expanded Alminarium natural kitchen guarantee guests incomparable moments of pleasure.
The kitchen is one of the heart of the hotel, which is why it was particularly important for the Pierer family to invest in the kitchen infrastructure and to optimize it for a sustainable future – with the aim of producing green, ecological, seasonal and regional cuisine. With a tripling of the room size, new, high-quality and energy-saving production equipment, a renewal of the kitchen equipment, a comprehensive ventilation ceiling, CNS hygiene high lift and an upgrade of the areas to an international level, the hotel kitchen has been raised to the natural Alminarium kitchen and thus to a new level. In the Pierer world, the term natural cuisine means that mainly products from the region and nature are processed with the power of alpine herbs. Therefore, the network of regional producers is constantly being expanded in order to be able to create sustainable, regional and seasonal delicacies for the guests of the Almwellness Hotel – as well as for the guests of the LAHÜ and the Almerlebnispark, for whom consistent quality dishes are produced in the processing kitchen. “We give our guests the extraordinary experience of regional products and the appreciation of our local producers and their products, which are very important to us,” explains Managing Director Alfred Pierer the kitchen philosophy.
With regional delicacies, accessories and great souvenirs, the new alpine boutique not only shines because of the modern alpine design.
The in-house Ab-Hof-Shop was also completely rethought, planned and doubled in size in 2022: The new Almboutique offers its visitors regional delicacies and design pieces of various kinds. With culinary highlights such as hearty spreads, prepared in the Alminarium natural kitchen, honey and juices from the region, Pierer wines and brandies as well as lounge wear, yoga fashion, high-quality clothing and accessories, you will find fine things for your home here. Another highlight: the Almboutique invites guests to try their specialties and delicacies at tastings. “In the Almboutique, our guests will find a piece of Pierer to take home, they simply take relaxation and enjoyment home with them and thus remember a relaxing break,” hostess Theresia Pierer is happy about the new investment.
Almspa and Almgarten offer relaxation at a higher level in the more than 5,000 m2 wellness and beauty area in the water worlds and with Almwellness treatments.
Fresh air, crystal clear water and a view of the extensive landscape have been giving guests a break at a higher level in the Almspa Pierer for many years. With the expansion of the wellness area to include the 20-meter infinity pool, the panorama sauna, the second outdoor whirlpool, a yoga & activity room and a fitness studio in 2019 and the expansion to 5,000m2 including an alpine garden and alpine beach, even more space in the relaxation rooms, Pierer’s milk bar and Pierer’s chat in 2021, an exclusive area of revitalization and regeneration was created. With the expansion of the beauty and massage portfolio, visitors have a wide range of relaxing offers at their disposal. With massages, body and beauty treatments, highlights of cosmetic equipment and special alpine rituals, guests experience alpine refreshment at a higher level with the power of alpine herbs. “The exclusive ambience, the design, the natural backdrop and the excellent level of our highly trained Almspa team provide relaxation for all the senses,” enthuses spa manager Evelyn Pierer.
