Kandern (dpa / lsw) – Five children were injured by the explosion of a New Year’s Eve firecracker at the train station in Kandern (Lörrach district). As a police spokesman announced on Friday, a 12-year-old had the firecracker in his hand on Thursday when someone of the same age ignited it. The blast injured three others in a group of five children.

The two 12-year-olds were reportedly taken to the university clinic in Freiburg by helicopter. The boy had injured his hand. The girl was suspected of suffering an eye injury, but this was not confirmed. Like the other children in the group, both were released to their parents after an examination in a children’s hospital.
