Train accident in Buxtehude: A twelve-year-old girl was seriously injured in an accident with an S-Bahn on Thursday.
According to the federal police, the accident happened around 4:35 p.m. near the Jorker Straße level crossing in the Buxtehude district of Neukloster. S-Bahn 9206 was traveling from Stade towards Buxtehude when the engine driver initiated an emergency stop. But he was no longer able to prevent a collision: the girl fell under the train, but was not run over by the wheels. The student was flown to a hospital in a rescue helicopter.

According to the officials, it is still unclear why the girl was on the double-track route or took a shortcut. The train driver suffered a shock and had to be relieved. There were about 100 passengers on the S-Bahn who remained on the train because it was stopped on the open route. An oncoming train also initiated an emergency stop.
