Cuxhaven gets EU money for UK traffic

The port of Cuxhaven will receive 10.3 million euros in EU funds to improve its UK traffic after Brexit. The Lower Saxony Europe Minister Wiebke Osigus (SPD) handed over the funding decision on Friday in Cuxhaven, as her ministry announced. The money comes from the EU’s Brexit Adjustment Reserve (BAR), which is intended to mitigate the consequences of Britain’s exit more than three years ago. This is intended to expand areas for customs clearance in the port of Cuxhaven. The State Fisheries Agency gets more money for staff to issue export certificates.

Of the German ports, Cuxhaven had the closest exchange with Great Britain even before Brexit. There is also a daily boat service to the port of Immingham.
