Max Verstappen led the minutes of the second session of the free races of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. His Red Bull Racing team mate Sergio Perez showed the third time. Both riders noted that this weekend the fight is tighter than in Bahrain.
Max Verstappen (1st): “There were no problems with the gearbox – the usual fine tuning when shifting down. We do this all the time.
I think the day turned out to be positive, but there are things that we can do better. As for the pace on a long series of circles, the gaps seem to be minimal. Everything will again come down to monitoring the condition of the rubber, but since the tires are less degraded on this track, the lap times are very close. Definitely the alignment of forces is not the same as in Bahrain.
Sergio Perez (3rd): “The conditions on the track in the first and second training sessions were different, so it was important to understand everything. I’ve had some minor mechanical problems with the car, but I hope the team will be able to fix them by Saturday. I hope this will allow me to go faster.
Today it was not easy to find a rhythm, but at least we got an idea of the capabilities of the machine. We were fast, but, as expected, our rivals are strong on this track.
I hope Max will remain my main competitor, but I expect several teams to take a step forward on Saturday.”
