15 percent of Belgians suffer from kidney stones at some point: how can you avoid them? “Drinking lots of water and eating less salt is not enough”
Today, March 9, is World Kidney Day. Not unimportant, because more and more patients end up in hospital with kidney stones compared to the past. “15 to 17 percent of Belgians suffer from it, and that figure is on the rise,” says nephrologist An Deman. “However, 75 percent of kidney stones can be avoided through diet,” adds urologist Anthony Van Baelen. Is salt really the big culprit? And what should you (not) eat to prevent it?
