Half a million plants of different tree species produce in Petén the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA)through Directorate of Natural Resources and Agrotourismwhich will be delivered to forestry workers in that region.
The 500,000 bushes are in nurseries of the aforementioned portfolio. Among them there are species of cedar, mahogany, Santa María and rosul, which will be donated to organized farmers from Las Cruces, San Luis, Poptún, Flores and Melchor de Mencos, the institution detailed on its website.
The initiative seeks to improve the production of woody plants that are essential for the conservation of the environment and the sustainable development of the region, as well as the recovery of the green landscape, according to the information.
5 municipalities will be favored with the contribution announced by MAGA.

The beneficiaries will also receive tools such as carts, shovels, picks, hoes, machetes, files, rakes, fertilizers, insecticides, and fungicides.
“These work instruments are used for cleaning tasks in the nurseries, transfer of substrate, filling of bags, fertilization and plant production”remarked the MAGA.
The hot season is propitious to start with the cultivation of trees, which are transplanted to their final destination before the start of the rainy season so that they have optimal development, explained the ministry. With these actions, it is sought to recover important extensions of land in the aforementioned department, the largest in the country.
