Of these, 326 are in Malawi, 73 in Mozambique, 17 in Madagascar, 17 in Mauritius and two in Zimbabwe.
Malawi’s President Lazarus Chaquera said during a visit to the site to inspect the disaster situation. “According to yesterday’s information The death toll rose from 225 to 326, the number of people evacuated doubled to 183,159, and the number of evacuated households now stands at 40,702.”
More than 300 emergency shelters have been set up to accommodate survivors, Mr Chaquera said. At the same time, the military and police were mobilized to the affected areas. along with announcing two weeks of national mourning for the victims and announcing a state of emergency
