The Kremlin devises a strategy to reclaim dominance over the nation, a significant battleground for competing with the West.

The five-page document describes concrete ways to support Moldova’s pro-Russian sentiment and prevent the country’s orientation towards the West. The measures proposed in the strategy regarding Moldova affect Russia’s objectives in the political, military, trade, economic and social spheres.

According to the German media, this document was supposedly developed by the same experts who created the strategy for the annexation of Belarus to Russia.

Moldova – an important arena for rivalry with the West

In their strategy, Kremlin experts call Moldova an important arena for confrontation with the West. Moscow’s central task for the next ten years is declared to be “delaying the attempts of foreign powers to interfere in internal affairs”. External forces obviously mean NATO.

The document emphasizes that it is necessary to stop the efforts of external forces to weaken Russia’s position. At the same time, it is proposed to involve Moldova in the organizations controlled by Russia – the organization of the collective security agreement and the Eurasian Economic Union.

One of the ways to prevent the “undermining of Russia’s interests in the region” should be the lever of economic pressure – a reminder of “Moldova’s interests in the Russian market”.

Kremlin experts call for the strengthening of pro-Russian sentiments in Moldova’s political and economic elite. As another measure, it is proposed to promote the expansion of education in Moldova in the Russian language, including distance education, and to open branches of Russian universities in this country.

According to the results of this strategy, by 2030, a “negative attitude towards NATO” should take root in Moldovan society and political circles, and a wide presence of Russian media should be ensured.
