Berlin: After the start of the education summit in Berlin, the responsible department head, Stark-Watzinger, called for rapid reforms. Currently, almost every fifth child leaves school without sufficient basic skills in reading, writing or arithmetic. Therefore, solutions urgently need to be found now, for example with the shortage of teachers or the digital equipment. According to Stark-Watzinger, educational success still depends too much on social background. According to the Federal Education Minister, the promise of advancement must be revived. The FDP politician also announced that she would set up an “education task force” made up of representatives from science, politics, educators, municipalities and trade unions. This serves the purpose of exchange, because what is now needed is a turnaround in education policy, according to Stark-Watzinger.
