Olga and Frank realize that they are not the youngest anymore and that this can therefore be a tough journey, they say. “We’re not 20 anymore and we both have a new knee,” says Olga. Her husband is already trying to think as tactically as possible. “We have to make sure it doesn’t come down to a sprint at the last minute.”
Besides being a bit ‘older’, Olga is also a people person. When she sees that someone has lost his wallet in a cafe at a train station in Mexico City, she almost becomes emotional. “Jeez. Ah, he’s all freaked out. Shall we get him a coffee?” she introduces to her husband.
Frank is much more cold-blooded: “You don’t help him with that.” She decides to comfort the non-Dutch speaking man. “Yeah, your wallet, huh?” she says, waving her own purse in front of his eyes. She finds out that the man lost his wallet in the taxi.
Cold-blooded Frank smells trouble. “Something in me says it can also be a play. That he wants money. Can all be part of it.” The gullible Olga is in shock. “I hadn’t looked at it that way before.”
Then Olga tells about a strong memory. “We’ve experienced a robbery, even with a gun. Then you see someone on every corner who wants to harm you. That never goes away completely when you experience something like that.” Her husband Frank has become suspicious as a result. “Is it all true what you see? That is very difficult to judge.”
The two are well on their way during the race. And arrive at it well in advance checkpoint in Antigua. They have found a cozy establishment where they can spend the night, but they come in during happy hour at the bar. Something the two will never forget.
Frank is tempted to spin the wheel behind the bar and that wheel ends in ‘body shot‘. “What is body shotOlga asks the locals. A bartender tells her to lie on the bar and that Frank is going to take a shot from her navel. The two join in, laughing. Olga lies on the bar and pulls up her shirt. Frank gasps and dives into his wife’s navel to take the shot.”We did it“, shouts Olga. She can’t stop laughing. Like Frank “Again!she yells even louder.
The next morning they rush to it checkpoint where they also encounter contestants Hugo Kennis and Eva Cleven. Although Olga and Frank get there before they run it checkpoint past. They are still second of this episode. And that is a very good score for a couple who no longer call themselves the youngest.
