Lydia (46) who died in an accident already has a few thousand euros collected for her funeral.

The woman who died last Sunday as a result of a collision on Weesperstraat is 46-year-old Lydia Helaha. The family of Lydia, who was called Titi by friends, has started a crowdfunding campaign to cover the costs of her funeral. If more money comes in than necessary, it will go to a fund for Lydia’s two children, who lived in Noord.

Lydia was hit by a taxi last Monday morning when she wanted to cross at the intersection of Weesperstraat with Nieuwe Achtergracht. She was then taken to hospital with serious head injuries. On Sunday she died of complications.

Maternity attendant

According to a cousin of Lydia, she just had a new job at the GGD for two days, close to the scene of the accident. Lydia lived in Amsterdam for about twenty-five years and worked as a maternity nurse almost all that time. According to her family, she was ‘a real Amsterdam’. The single mother leaves behind two school-aged children.

Lydia’s family is now started a crowdfunding. “As friends and family, we hope to be able to raise an amount in this way to cover the costs of the funeral. Extra money will go to a fund for the children.” A few thousand euros have already been collected for Lydia.
