Anies Baswedan has not yet determined the name of the vice presidential candidate (cawapres) who will accompany him in the 2024 presidential election. Head of the Department of Political, Legal and Security Affairs PKS Nabil Ahmad Fauzi said that vice presidential candidate Anies was also waiting for the direction of his political stance PDIP.
“But what cannot be denied is that the political parties have not made their stance until today, everyone will be waiting for when the PDI-P will make a stance. So besides we consider ourselves the Change Coalition and Anies are game changers, one of the game changers is the PDIP’s stance. So far PDIP will I have made a decision, yes, of course the party will have a calculation, right,” Nabil told reporters at the Grand Cemara Hotel, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (15/3/2023).
Nabil said that the direction of the PDI-P’s stance must be awaited by all political parties. He said the people would be sure that the 2024 elections would continue if other political parties had declared their candidate for president.
“Yes, one of them (waiting for PDIP’s stance), of course one of them, because the important thing is like this, we already have a presidential candidate and build a coalition. That is one of our steps forward to convince the public, the people, that we are sure that the 2024 Election will take place. “But it’s not enough for us alone, that’s why Prabowo Gerindra has more confidence in the contestation, which is one that is profitable for us, also means the people have more confidence in elections,” he said.
“Especially if the PDIP immediately makes a decision even though it’s PDIP’s autonomy, yes, we don’t press it either, up to 1 hour before registration it’s still legal, especially since PDIP has a golden ticket. So it’s up to him, he wants to register whenever he wants as long as it hasn’t passed.” the troublesome time is that we are still lacking, if you don’t hurry, you won’t get it,” he added.
Nabil said he did not rule out the possibility that Anies’ cawapres would come from an external Coalition for Change. He said that the selection of Anies as vice presidential candidate was still focused on fulfilling the criteria.
“In terms of names, of course we can mention each one. We respect that the Democrats are still proposing Mas AHY and then other names are circulating, it is an internal agreement that each of us is welcome to mention names and offer names because space has been given for each party to mention their names. but we are still focused on the criteria, while waiting for the momentum,” he said.
He said Anies was considering the figure of his running mate. He did not talk much about the specific name Anies would choose.
“Rest assured, the cawapres is sometimes the element of surprise far greater than the figures in circulation. We do not rule out the possibility that outside the coalition, as far as that was true, was a factor in supporting the victory,” he said.
“We see that Pak Anies must have started taking inventory of figures who can assist,” he added.
